Located in the revitalized ICE District in downtown Edmonton, we are looking for a  Team Lead, Software Development. This role will provide technical and people leadership.

 

What you’ll do 

 

As Team Lead, Software Development, you will be the most senior software development resource in the Services team. Your team will be responsible for integrating Machine Learning models built by the Data Science team into a business workflow. This could involve developing APIs to wrap the models, packaging those into containers, as well as developing simple front-end MVP applications. You will provide technical and people leadership, but as you can see, we are looking for a very hands-on leader with technical breadth and depth!

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Leading a development team in the design, development, testing and debugging of applications
  • Acting as a technical mentor and advisor for the Services development team
  • Coordinating the effective use of the development team’s time and ensuring efficient communication between team members, customers and Services leaders
  • Reviewing and writing reusable, testable, and efficient code
  • Performing quality assurance of solutions implemented
  • Designing and implementing low-latency, high-availability, and performant applications
  • Integration of ML components with existing business systems
  • Development and integration of cloud components in Azure, AWS and GCP
  • Development of simple front-end applications using the SPA framework
  • Implementation of security and data protection requirements
  • Continuous identification of process improvement opportunities
  • Working with project teams and clients to understand their requirements
  • Supporting business development and project delivery teams in technical responses and estimations for proposal submissions
  • Proactively pursuing self-instruction on relevant technical topics and new concepts
  • Generating written reports and documentation as needed

 

What you bring 

 

  • 5-7 years of hands-on coding experience, integration and back-end development preferred.
  • Familiarity with creating RESTFUL services using a framework
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Knowledge of user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind building scalable applications
  • Experience with full software development life-cycle (SDLC) and good architecture skills 
  • Understanding of the differences between multiple delivery platforms, such as mobile vs. desktop, and knowledge of how to optimize output to match the specific platform
  • Ability to create database schemas that represent and support business processes
  • Strong unit test and debugging skills
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (GIT)
  • Working knowledge of micro service-based architecture
  • Working knowledge of Python or a similar development language that indicates you could easily transfer the knowledge
  • Knowledge of Agile and Scrum
  • Knowledge of microservice architecture 
  • Experience with containers  (E.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Containers) is highly desirable
  • Experience with DevOps and taking solutions to the Cloud (E.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) is highly desirable
